WHAT IS DIATOMACEOUS EARTH?

Diatomaceous Earth is composed of the fossilized remains of diatoms.  Diatoms are tiny, aquatic organisms with skeletons made up of silica. They are one of the largest and most ecologically significant groups of organisms on the planet. They are also the only organism that have cell walls composed of silica, making them incredibly unique and useful.

Due to their prevalence, diatoms accumulated in the sediment of different bodies of water and silica deposits began to build up over time. Silica makes up an estimated 26% of Earth’s crust by weight and comes in various forms including sand, clay, glass, mica, and quartz.

Silica usually reacts with oxygen to produce silicon dioxide, which can be used in a variety of different ways. The first pesticide products containing silicon dioxide can be traced back to the 1960’s.

Products that contain Diatomaceous Earth often come in dust or powder form. Bed bugs, cockroaches, spiders, fleas, ticks, and many other insects can be combated using Diatomaceous Earth. The powder clings to pests and dehydrates the insect. The pesticide works best if left dry and untouched.

USE DR. KILLIGAN’S INSECT BUSTER

Dr. Killigan's Insect Buster / Bulb DusterIf Diatomaceous Earth powder is left undisturbed, they pose no threat to humans. Kicking up Diatomaceous Earth powder and inhaling it directly can cause irritation to airways, coughing, and shortness of breath. Use Dr. Killigan’s sturdy and precise applicator tool to minimize this issue and to be more precise in dispersal.

To use the diatomaceous earth applicator, fill the bulb with food grade DE.  Food grade DE contains less than 1% crystalline silica which makes it safe for humans and animals.  To get the most out of the DE applicator, invert, shake, and squeeze the rubber bulb to send a puff of diatomaceous earth into hard-to-reach places.  How vertical you hold it will determine whether the DE comes out in a puffy cloud or in a stream.

In comparison to other pesticides, Diatomaceous Earth presents a natural and non-toxic alternative to harmful pesticides. Other pesticides pose a significant threat to you and your loved ones, especially children and pets. Diatomaceous Earth poses little threat without compromising effectiveness, and Dr. Killigan’s ingenues DE applicator  presents an even safer way to use it – efficiently, precisely, and without hassle.
