Placing moth traps in your kitchen, pantry and cupboards will stop the mating process by trapping males. Pantry moths, such as the Indian meal moth, commonly enter homes through open doors, windows, or small gaps in the home's structure, like those around dryer vents or plumbing. They can also infest homes by arriving in contaminated food packaging or food items bought from stores. Once inside, they find food in pantries, ideal for laying eggs and multiplying.

These moths are drawn to a variety of dry foods—grains, nuts, legumes, cocoa, chocolate, tea, spices, dried fruits and veggies, and even tobacco. Signs of an infestation include the moths' webbing on food packages or inside containers, which often results in food clumping together. The damaging larvae stage of pantry moths grows quickly, resembling maggots more than caterpillars, and can grow up to 1.7 cm long.

If the trap's glue ends up on your skin, don't worry—it's non-toxic, though quite sticky. To remove it, apply vegetable oil to the affected area and gently rub it in. Then, cleanse the area with soap and warm water. You may need to repeat this process to completely remove the glue.

The traps are designed to remain effective for about three months after they're placed. Yet, if you notice that the traps have filled up or if there seems to be an increase in moth activity, it may be time for an early replacement. The frequency of replacing the traps can vary based on the severity of your moth infestation; more significant issues may necessitate quicker replacements.
