Dust to Dust is formulated with nano-sized essential-oil particles and fine silica, penetrating the waxy outer layer of insects and attacking their nervous systems, resulting in death typically within 24 hours. The formula is designed as a preventative solution.

With the powder’s blend of peppermint and rosemary oils—encapsulated within silica particles—Dust to Dust provides a controlled release that stabilizes the volatile essential-oil compounds and gives them longer-lasting efficacy.

Dr. Killigan tested Dust to Dust against diatomaceous earth on various insects, including American cockroaches and fire ants. In 10 tests with American cockroaches, the average kill time with Dust to Dust was 3.9 hours, compared to 12.9 hours with diatomaceous earth. In 10 tests with fire ants, the average kill time was 5.3 hours, compared to 9.1 hours with diatomaceous earth. The tests concluded that the addition of essential oils with silica increased the potency overall and killed insects faster than traditional DE powder by as much as 70% faster.

May I use Dust to Dust on my plants?

Yes, Dust to Dust can be applied to plant stems and leaves, but be sure to avoid areas where beneficial insects such as bees pollinate. While the silica in Dust to Dust can strengthen the cell walls of plants, the formula repels and eliminates destructive insects.

Can this product be applied as a wettable dust?

Yes, 2 oz. of this product can be mixed with water to create a wettable dust but it needs to be shaken frequently.

A standard-sized trigger sprayer (similar to our Six Feet Under trigger sprayer) works well in the application process. Mini trigger sprayers and pump sprayers (which provide a fine mist) do not work well. Higher output sprayers are best. We recommend using the stream setting, which gets the silica and other ingredients to come out easier than when misted.

How do I use this product proactively and preventatively?

The best way to use Dust to Dust proactively is to apply the product outdoors around the foundation, near entry points and all other areas where insects can access your home.

Garage doors can also tend to allow space for insects to crawl through. Apply this product along the bottom of the walls in your garage and near the garage door tracks.

Attics, as well, are a common space for insects and spiders to hide out because they typically don’t see as much foot traffic and are often undisturbed.

We recommend that you monitor the areas where the product has been applied and reapply as necessary. Heavy rainfalls outside or heavy foot traffic indoors can be cause for reapplication. This product tends to stand out so it is relatively easy to see where it is and isn’t. Reapplication is key to keeping pesky invaders fully out of your home.

What is the best way to distribute Dust to Dust?
